AlphAroma
AlphAroma or Rakau as it is now known was re-released from the New Zealand Hop breeding programme in 2007 for trials under organics and now widely established under conventional cultivation.
A uniquely bred triploid, purpose-bred hop, this varietal originated in the 1970s but was not commercially released until about 1983. AlphAroma was developed from Smooth Cone through open pollination. The unique oil balance and medium alpha acid content makes AlphAroma a dual purpose hop. Put these characteristics to good use by adding this hop to Pale Ales and Lagers to add a firm bitterness as well as a citrusy, fruity aroma.
